This baby jumping spider was checking himself out in the mirror. He’s very young and his two big eyes appear clear, even though they are black in the reflection.
This is a Golden Ant-mimicking Jumping Spider. I watched (and photographed) this little guy for several minutes outside on our water tank today. The entire time I thought it was an ant…eating a tiny green spider. It wasn’t until looking through the pics tonight that I realized it has eight legs…making it an arachnid. I completed a little research (googled it) and sure enough, definitely a spider! It’s often found hiding among ants, waving its front two legs as if they were antennas. This not only helps prevent ant attacks, but also tricks other spiders…in which they prey upon.
Isn’t nature clever?
