Day 248 – Moo-ving Forward

My 365 project will definitely run long, but I’m determined to finish it. Now that Toby is getting a little bigger, I can take him on explorations with me, so I’m hoping to get back into frequent photo adventures soon. Here is one from our evening adventure.

Day 246 – Blue Tongue Lizard

He put up a brilliant fight and I had this exact image lunging toward me every time I tried to touch him…but finally my persistence paid off and I was able to pick him up. 🙂  He is a Blue Tongue Lizard, a skink to be exact and aptly named for the obvious. He looks and feels like a snake, except he has legs. When approached by a possible predator this lizard expands with air, hisses and snaps his giant, blue tongued mouth at anything he can. Blue Tongues are larger than normal skinks and can be quite intimidating when approached.

After admiring him gently this afternoon I went inside to read about him. I read that they have powerful bites and will latch on to your finger if given the chance. Although he almost got me a few times, I thankfully didn’t get bit and we both walked away completely unscathed.

Day 240 – Finally Sitting Still

This is a Leaf Hopper nymph. They are tiny, not much bigger than a flea. I not only used my macro (Tamron 60mm), I used extension tubes (to get closer focusing range) and my Kenko 1.4 x teleconverter to get some close up detail that is necessary in macro.

Day 187 – For the Love of Mantis

This little guy resisted my initial attempts to photograph him this evening. My resilience paid off and he eventually posed for a couple of pics. I got some great shots of him cleaning himself as well…pretty intimate moments, I guess he finally felt comfortable with me in his face.

I used extension tubes on my macro lens for his photo shoot, great fun.
